About 1 & 1/2 to 2 inches of the toe tip is darkened with burnished black. The buckle is only a design, it is a Velcro closure. The oxblood (burgundy) goes well with many colors. I would rather wear these than be barefoot, which is how I judge comfort.The fit is very good. Nice room in toe box, arch support placed in the right area. The slope from heel to toe is very gradual and feels very comfortable.
