I have a hard time in close fitting dresses because I am pear shaped. Typically an 8 or 10 on top and 12 on bottom (sometimes 10). I first bought this in 10 but it was too tight in the hips. The top seemed to fit though, so I hesitated to exchange it for a 12, thinking the top would be too large. My husband loved the dress, though, and even my 20 year old son gave an unsolicited and enthusiastic "nice dress!". I went ahead and exchanged it for size 12 and I'm so glad I did. It fit beautifully! Yes, some of the fabric is a bit scratchy, but I wore it for several hours without a problem.
